Week 12: Famous Last Words

Week 12: Famous Last Words

This week was another stressful one! I had two tests at the end of the week. I don't understand how every single month, all of my tests end up being on the same day! How stressful! But luckily, the only big things I have left to do are finals and a paper and then it is Christmas!!! One more month and school is out for winter break. I am so excited! I dont know about anyone else, but this semester has flown by so fast. I just took my third tests in all of my classes, but it feels like just yesterday we were going over the syllabus. I guess I was just so busy that I blinked and it was almost over. I am really terrified for next semester because I have enrolled in capstone. (!!!!)  That is just the scariest thing in the world to me. I am almost a college graduate. What is even scarier is that now I have to figure out what I want to do with my life. I still do not know what I want to be "when I grow up." Hopefully I am not the only one who feels this way. I have always been so sick of school and just wanted to graduate, but now I am scared of what is ahead of me when I am actually out.

Bedlam

Well, it was another rough week for OU football. Hopefully we get it together soon and start winning every game again like we always did while I was growing up!!! I actually get to go to the bedlam game which I am super excited about, but I am kind of nervous now!! I just found out my dad had some tickets and he is giving them to me. I really just want to go to have fun regardless of if we win or not. Either way I know it is going to be a lot of fun!

Week 10: Famous Last Words

Week 10: Famous Last Words
This week was so great because since I had midterms and papers due last week, I did not have any major projects due this week and could really focus on this class. I don't like when I do not get to spend a lot of time doing work for this class because I know that my work ends up not being my best, especially my stories. I really like to put thought into my stories and really make them great.
This week I really got to focus on studying in advance and getting a lot of homework done which was nice.

In my Methods of Social Research class, my group got our proposal back today! It was 15 pages long and took forever to write, but the work paid off. We ended up getting an A, and it was the highest grade in the class. That was such a great feeling. That was the second paper (the first big paper) we wrote for this class, and we got the best grade in the class on both of them. I am not much for group work in classes, but I really got blessed with a great group for this class and  I could not be more thankful for that.
Disney's Snow White

I am really excited for the next two weeks in this class because we are getting into some really good stories! A lot of them look familiar, but some others do not so I am excited to get into that. I am also looking forward to reading other people's stories because I think people will be extra creative this week since we know so many of the stories that we can choose from. Since I know that there is a Celtic version of Snow White in the upcoming unit, I decided to post a picture of Snow White since she is from one of my favorite Disney movies.

Week 9: Famous Last Words

Week 9: Famous Last Words
"Halloween"
Wow this week has been crazy. I had a Spanish test, a Wealth, Power, and Prestige test and a 15 page paper due all on Thursday and Friday. I think I am officially exhausted. Now I am excited because for the next two weeks I probably won't have too many big assignments due and that is so great because I am so excited to watch some scary movies until Halloween. Halloween is the best. I love, love, LOVE scary movies (although I never find them scary enough)!

"Halloween"
Probably my favorite move to watch around Halloween is "Halloween." Go figure! I just love that it is Halloween themed because it is one of my favorite holidays. That is one of the few actual Halloween themed movies around. Me and my sister Michelle love to sit in the dark and watch them at night during this time of year. At this point the movies don't really scare us anymore it is just tradition now.
My dad testing out the mask taken by me

One Halloween my dad dressed as Michael Myers and had the mask, the outfit, makeup and everything. He took a knife and went into my 62 year old neighbors backyard and tapped on her back door with the knife. She almost peed her pants and probably almost had a heart attack! She was screaming and everything! He actually got me too. When I was coming home from work he snuck out of the garage and chased me! It was great. I could not find the picture of him in full costume, but I found one of him wearing the mask so there you go!

Week 8: Famous Last Words

Week 8: Famous Last Words

So since it is OU/TX week, I am going to write a Famous Last Words about that, and my first OU/TX experience ever!

Last year was the first time I ever went to OU/TX. I know it's crazy. Especially since I am a native Normanite. My parents were just never into football that much so we never went, and then I was not about to pay $500 for a ticket when I finally got to college so it just never happened. Last year, the GM of the Toyota store (where I work) happened to have two tickets and I guess my dad had told him I wanted to go so he gave them to me! It was so nice of him to do that for me.

My boyfriend Alejandro and Gracie taken by me
When we got to Dallas there was such a great energy everywhere. My boyfriend and I had a great dinner the first night with OU and TX people everywhere we looked. Everyone was in such a great mood because everyone was so pumped.

The next morning we headed out bright and early and we were so excited because neither of us had been before. We got a decent parking spot and started the long walk to the stadium. We got to our seats and started to sweat like CRAZY. It was so fun to see how excited everyone was and to see the mascots, the cheerleaders, and the flags.

OU/TX 2013
Unfortunately, we all know what happened shortly after that. We started to loose. And then we started to loose badly. And then we were pretty much done for. So we left and walked around the fair a little bit and got some margaritas and fried food! I looked everywhere for the fried grilled cheese because grilled cheeses just might be my favorite food. I could not find them anywhere so I settled for a piping hot, greasy corn dog and we left! We went back to the hotel and took a tequila shot (or two) to drown our sorrows, but decided we were just happy to get the opportunity to go and be together.

Then we went out that night and wore our colors proud and ate a delicious ribeye steak, jalapeno cheese grits, and calamari. Oh, and did I mention wine? It was lovely!

Although we lost, it was still such a fun experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I really wish I was going this year. I think it's going to be a great game, and I'm so jealous of all of my friends who are going!

BOOMER SOONER!

Week 6: Famous Last Words

Week 6: Famous Last Words
This week I did not do my best in terms of writing. I did not really get into any of the stories too much, and I also waited until last minute to write my storytelling. I think this really effected me because I feel like I took a step backwards, but it is okay because I will be better next week. For sure! I have learned this week that it is not really that fun to rewrite a story if you are not going to rewrite some aspect of it. It may be a good story still, but the fun part is making it your own. That is something I plan to work on next week.
New Brunswick, Canada
Since fall is upon us, I decided to add a few picturse of one the places I have visited that I love most. I believe that it is probably chilly and beautiful in Canada right now. Canada is the only place I have ever been that I would be okay with moving to. The people are nice, the coffee is PERFECT, and it is such a laid back place compared to the United States. I have only ever visited in the summer and the winter, not the fall. I traveled to Toronto, Ontario one summer in July and one winter in January. July was amazing because it was in the 70s and 80s. Perfect weather in my opinion since I really do not like the heat of Oklahoma summers. When I went at New Years, it was a whole different story. It snowed most of the days, and was bitter cold like I have never felt before. I went ice skating off Lake Ontario late at night while it was snowing. Needless to say I came home with a horrible, horrible cold.

Toronto,  Canada
I really loved Niagara Falls when I went (I did this in July)! It was one of the most beautiful places I have been to. So since I know Canada is probably looking amazing this time of year, I decided to post some picture of Fall in Canada that I found on Google. Since I have been to one of the biggest cities in Canada, I would really love to travel to a less city-like city in Canada and hopefully in the Fall or Winter.

Week 5: Famous Last Words

Famous Last Words
I have been very busy this week because I have had SO much to do. I took my first test of the semester today and it went really well. IT was for Wealth, Power, and Prestige. I was really nervous because we have to read eight books for that class, and we are tested over them along with lecture material. For this test we had to read "Inequality Matters." I figured I had the lecture material down pretty good, but I was so unsure about the book material. Luckily there were only two short answer questions about the book. Now I will be spending my weekend preparing for my Spanish 2113 test. I am REALLY nervous about that test. I took a year between the second Spanish class and then this Spanish class so I am a bit rusty. This class is only 3 hours compared to the 5 hours the first two levels are, but there is just as much work and material to do/remember. I am so ready to get that test over with so I can just enjoy some television or a movie or something fun!

My mom left today for Los Angeles with my grandmother for an art trip. They get to go to a ton of museums, tour artist's homes, and have cocktail parties and some dinners at the artist's homes. They are also staying at the Four Seasons in Malibu. How much better can it get? I am so jealous to say the least! However, this means I will be playing mom this week at my house! I am in charge of making dinner for my dad and sisters, and feeding my dogs! So I am going to be very busy this upcoming week, but hopefully I get some me time too :)

Me and Chris Hemsworth taken by my mom
This week I decided to post a "fun" picture! Since my mom is in L.A. this week I looked through our pictures from when we went on a family vacation to L.A. for spring break! This is me attempting to kiss Chris Hemsworth. As you can see he is VERY attractive, and he is also my celebrity crush. Unfortunately for me this is a wax figure at Madam Toussad's Wax Museum on Hollywood Boulevard (the wax figure does him no justice, he is much more attractive in person)!

Week 4: Famous Last Words

Famous Last Words
Happy Birthday Jen! taken by me in Palm Beach 2012
This week was my littlest sister, Jennifer's, sixteenth birthday! We have had a fun week so far. She was nominated for homecoming attendant at Norman North High School. Unfortunately, she did not end up winning, but she was okay with that. Homecoming was actually on her birthday, too! Her birthday was September 11 so it is easy to remember. She threw a huge party here at our house last night! It was a pool party with about fifty 15-16 year olds, and it was crazy. There was blasting music, whipped cream sprayed in two girls hair and faces, ten boxes of pizzas, two cookie cakes, and 4 dozen iced cookies that said "Sweet 16" on them. It was about 50 degrees outside, but everyone had a great time and most people swam believe it or not. We had our pool and hot tub both heated to 100 degrees. Unfortunately for Jennifer she has to get the hand-me down car. It is a 2000 silver Avalon that I drove when I turned 16 and then my other sister drove when she was 16, and now Jen gets to drive it. We tell her she should be thankful she even gets a car because a lot of kids don't. She at least got a new stereo system for her birthday! Tonight we are going with our family and our grandparents to a nice steak dinner for this wonderful occasion! I feel so old now that my baby sister is 16 and driving! It is so crazy to even think about! She is such a sweet  and beautiful person inside and out. I have never heard her talk bad to about anyone or anything. She is always so happy, funny, and talented. So happy sweet sixteen Jennifer!

Week 3: Famous Last Words

Week 3: Famous Last Words

This week I realized that people are starting to get the hang of the storytelling assignments. Some people are getting really creative and changing a lot about their chosen stories. There also has not been a story that I have not liked yet so I am thankful for that!  I personally think that I could use some more practice because I would like to get really creative with them, but sometimes it it hard for me to think of different ideas. What helped me this week was reading through the storytelling style ideas while doing the storybook project assignment. I really enjoyed reading through those because there was so many ideas that I had never thought of! Some of my favorites were the prequel, sequel ideas because there are so many things that I could make up on my own!

So this weekend I got to have a mini vacation to one of my favorite cities- Dallas! I love it there so much. I love Texas in general because my family (both mom and dad's side) is from there originally. My dad is from Houston and my mom is from Lubbock/Dallas. Fortunately both of their families moved up here for work reasons and they met, fell in love, and had me!! So Texas is my home away from home, and is probably the first place I would move to if I ever had to move anywhere.

My boyfriend and I went down there just to relax, do some shopping, and eat some amazing food! Particularly Mexican food because that is my favorite! :) We had the best time, and it was great timing because we were both kind of exhausted from school already (that is NOT a good sign)! So it was good to get away and not think about homework, studying, or responsibilities for 2 1/2 days. Now it is back to reality and back to the real world of work and school! I cannot wait until my next weekend getaway!

Week 2: Famous Last Words

Week 2: Famous Last Words

This week was the first week that we actually did readings and got to get a feel for what this class will be like for the rest of the semester. I am realizing that I am definitely going to need to manage my time well to do well in all of my classes. Every one of my classes is very demanding of my time this semester! I have fun with this class, though, because we really get to put a lot of our personalities into everything we do. We really get to control what we do for this class and that is nice. We get to pick which stories to read and which of those to retell. I really liked how some of the stories we got to choose from this week had an audio we could listen to. I do so much reading as it is that it was nice to have someone else read to me. The good thing about this class is that you have to be involved every day and that keeps you in touch of what needs to be done. Some online classes only make you do work once or twice a week, and it is really easy to get behind or to forget to do things.

OU FOOTBALL
I am really excited for this weekend because it is the first OU football game of the season! Norman has a really fun vibe when there is a game going on. All of us Normanites love us some OU football so it should be a great weekend! I do not ever go to the games because I am usually working on Saturdays which is really unfortunate. I have probably only ever been to five OU games in my whole life. On top of football starting up, it is also a holiday weekend which I think most of us students are very ready for. We have had a long two weeks of classes and it will be nice to have a tiny break.

Week 1: Famous Last Words

Famous Last Words
This week I feel like I have learned a lot from this class. I have really learned a lot of useful tips for the internet. I made a blog! I never thought I would do that, or even know how to do that! Along with learning how to create a blog, I am learning how to use it and how to make changes based on what I like and dislike. For example, I know how to change the layout, background, font and colors of my blog. At first, I did not really like posting pictures with my blog posts because I thought it was complicated, but now I cannot imagine posting one without an image. It really adds something to the post. I have done four technology tips so far and those are really teaching me a lot because I am purposely picking ones that are going to teach me something new. I think that along with learning a lot about Mythology and Folklore, I will also learn a lot technology wise from this class. My other classes are going pretty well so far, but I know it is going to be a tough semester. I am in Spanish 2113 which is my third Spanish class at OU. I am nervous because I am not the best at Spanish and I know it is a lot of work since it is online. We have homework and quizzes due almost every day much like this class. I am also in Methods of Social Research which may be a difficult class too. We have lots of long papers to write in that class, and my teacher is VERY loud and intimidating.

In honor of my grandparent's 51st anniversary coming up at the end of the month, the picture I have posted is of my sisters, my mom, my grandparents, and I at their 50th anniversary bash last year (I am the one in pink, this was before I chopped off my hair)!  It was such a great party, and they are still so sweet and in love after all these years!
