Week 8: Famous Last Words

Week 8: Famous Last Words

So since it is OU/TX week, I am going to write a Famous Last Words about that, and my first OU/TX experience ever!

Last year was the first time I ever went to OU/TX. I know it's crazy. Especially since I am a native Normanite. My parents were just never into football that much so we never went, and then I was not about to pay $500 for a ticket when I finally got to college so it just never happened. Last year, the GM of the Toyota store (where I work) happened to have two tickets and I guess my dad had told him I wanted to go so he gave them to me! It was so nice of him to do that for me.

When we got to Dallas there was such a great energy everywhere. My boyfriend and I had a great dinner the first night with OU and TX people everywhere we looked. Everyone was in such a great mood because everyone was so pumped.

The next morning we headed out bright and early and we were so excited because neither of us had been before. We got a decent parking spot and started the long walk to the stadium. We got to our seats and started to sweat like CRAZY. It was so fun to see how excited everyone was and to see the mascots, the cheerleaders, and the flags.

Unfortunately, we all know what happened shortly after that. We started to loose. And then we started to loose badly. And then we were pretty much done for. So we left and walked around the fair a little bit and got some margaritas and fried food! I looked everywhere for the fried grilled cheese because grilled cheeses just might be my favorite food. I could not find them anywhere so I settled for a piping hot, greasy corn dog and we left! We went back to the hotel and took a tequila shot (or two) to drown our sorrows, but decided we were just happy to get the opportunity to go and be together.

Then we went out that night and wore our colors proud and ate a delicious ribeye steak, jalapeno cheese grits, and calamari. Oh, and did I mention wine? It was lovely!

Although we lost, it was still such a fun experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I really wish I was going this year. I think it's going to be a great game, and I'm so jealous of all of my friends who are going!

BOOMER SOONER!

  1. Even though we did lose (sad sad day), it sounds like you had a great time! Last year was my first year living in Oklahoma, and I really wanted to go to the OU/TX game, but I was unable to. I told myself I would go the next year, but here we are, and I'm not going :( boo for being a broke college student. I was really looking forward to going to the Texas State Fair too. Hopefully you are able to go next year!

  2. I only went to OU/TX twice so not going isn't too crazy to me! I think we won the two years I went so I can't really imagine what it must have been like after we lost last year but it sounds like you had a lot of fun! Especially since jalapeño cheese grits AND wine were involved. I've never had jalapeño cheese grits but they sound bomb.

  3. Last year's OU/Texas was insane! I didn't go to that one, but I'm sure it was crazy since we ended up loosing. I'm glad you had a great time because it is a really cool experience. Don't get me started on the fair too. It is almost my favorite part because I love food. Your dog Gracie is so cute! What kind of dog is she?

  4. I am really glad that you did your famous last words this week over OU/TX. This event is a feat that everyone should end up going to. If not to the game, but definitely to west end the night before and the fair. All the fried foods are there. I have actually been to OU/TX since I was a freshman and I am now a fifth year senior. It is by far one of my favorite events to experience.
